Bokajan: Isha Sarkar has brought laurels to the State as she bagged the prestigious Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award, 2018 at a function held in New Delhi recently. Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award is sponsored by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The award is given to recognize meritorious SC/ST students who have excelled in Class X/XII examination conducted by any State/Central/Council board in the country.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawar Chand Gehlot presented the award to Isha Sarkar. The award included a demand draft of Rs 60,000, a citation, a copy of the Constitution of India and a book on Dr Ambedkar.
Isha Sarkar is a resident of Bokajan in the hill district of Karbi Anglong. Sarkar was a student of Science stream in Pranab Jubilee College, Bokajan and had secured 94.4 per cent mark in her higher secondary (10+2) examination conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in 2017. She is now a student of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) and wants to serve the poor and underprivileged class as a doctor.
