GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya conferred the state’s highest civilian awards for 2024 at a grand ceremony held at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium.
The event, attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, recognized exceptional individuals for their contributions across various fields, honoring them for their dedication and service to society.
The most prestigious award, Assam Baibhav, was presented to Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita (Retd) for his exemplary service. His remarkable achievements were recognized as a milestone in the state's excellence.
Several awards, including the Assam Saurabh award, were presented to the individuals for their successes in various fields. Subramanian Ramadorai received the award for his academic achievements, whereas Dr. Bappi Paul and Dr. Purabi Saikia received the award for their success in the field of environmental science.
The award also honored the sport and artistic arenas as singer Dwipen Baruah, dramatist Hemanta Dutta, and cricketer Uma Chetry received the award for their success.
Meanwhile, the Assam Gaurav award honored people who were achieving excellence in different fields. Recipients this year were wildlife conservationist Phuleswari Dutta, motorbiker Meenakshi Das, footballer Parthib Sundar Gogoi, terracotta craftsman Dhirendra Nath Paul, and brass metal craftsman Haridas Das.
Other winners were student mentor Binong Teron, fish farmer Nazrul Haque, agriculturist Biswajit Borah, dairy producer Bharat Ch. Kalita, folk musician Barlangfa Narzary, singer and artist Ram Sashoni, and startup/MSME entrepreneurs Upamanyu Borkakoty and David Pratim Gogoi.
Apart from this, there was special appreciation for eco-tourism benefactor Choran Ahem (represented by Mangal Singh Teron), Barekuri Village (represented by Dipllob Chutia) for its work in wildlife preservation, and Hati Bondhu NGO (represented by Pradip Kumar Bhuyan) for its exceptional work in wildlife conservation.
