GUWAHATI: The Guwahati International Airport which acts as a gateway to the Northeastern part of the county serving 24 domestic and 2 international destinations, has recorded a footfall of nearly 4.8 lakh passengers in the month of August 2023. This number is nearly 31% more than the numbers for the same duration in the previous year.
The top domestic destinations served from Guwahati during the month of August are Imphal, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru. And the two international destinations served are Singapore and Paro.
The authorities also informed that the airport witnessed a total of 3839 air traffic movements in the month, which is about 14% higher compared to the same duration last year. With a high footfall in the summer schedule which ends in September, the management is expecting an even higher footfall in the winter schedule which begins in October.
Recently while flagging off the newly constructed Nilachal Flyover, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Guwahati International Airport will soon get a new terminal as well as a new entry to ensure that travellers can move to and from the airport at high speed.
Previously also, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport has seen a massive increase in the footfall of passengers in recent times and clocked nearly 5 lahks in the month of June. This number represents a nearly 15% growth in passenger volume compared to June 2022. Nearly 2,95,000 are departure passengers, while the remaining are said to be arrival ones. The top domestic destinations served are Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Nearly 4,000 fight movements were handled in the month of June. The largest one-day passenger footfall was recorded at 17513, and the highest air traffic movement in a day was 129 in the month of June.
