GUWAHATI: In a significant development for Guwahati, the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project is rapidly progressing. Spearheaded by Guwahati Smart City Limited, the initiative aims to enhance the city's scenic beauty and amplify its tourism potential, with completion anticipated this year.

Assam's Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has expressed optimism regarding the project's completion by April. Mallabaruah highlighted the ongoing developments, noting the expedited pace under the Chief Minister's leadership. The undertaking includes two to three gardens near the river and various other embellishments to attract tourists worldwide.

"The riverfront development works are going on. We are constructing 2-3 gardens near the Brahmaputra River. New inclusions have been added. These works are going on very fast under the leadership of our Chief Minister," Mallabaruah stated.

Inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 20, 2024, the riverfront spans an impressive six kilometers from Rajbhawan to the Kamakhaya temple. It will feature a walkway, cycle track, jogging track, and infrastructure like viewpoints, fountains, jetties, and ferry terminals, poised to define Guwahati's identity.
