JAMUGURIHAT: Bombaiya Lychee or litchi from Lechubari, Tezpur has already acclaimed its fame and reputation not only in the state and in India but abroad also. The delicious taste and its fragrant flavour invite customers from far and wide. People from distant places visit Tezpur during the season of litchi. Seeing the growing high demand of Bambaiya Lychee or litchi from Lechubari in the market, the Gyanjyoti SHG of No 6 Sootea GP has geared up for cultivation of this kind of litchi this year. In this connection, the inaugural session of the litchi plantation drive was officially inaugurated by Munindra Nath Nagatey, district commissioner of Biswanath today in presence of officials from the block development office Sootea, and officials from the agriculture department. Inaugurating the plantation drive, the district commissioner expressed his optimistic view and welcomed the venture shown by the SHG. The estimated cost of the plantation drive is 4 lakhs 88 thousand and a total of 200 saplings of litchi will be planted, stated one of the SHG members.
