Assam: High-Impact Session on Empowering Workforce and Promoting Entrepreneurship Held In Guwahati

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) hosted a session in Guwahati focusing on improving Assam's business environment, empowering the workforce, and promoting entrepreneurship.

GUWAHATI: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) hosted a high-impact session titled “Guest of the Month – Ease of Doing Business” at the NEDFi Conference Hall in Guwahati, Assam, on January 31, 2025.

The event included a keynote address by Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, who highlighted the importance of empowering the workforce and promoting entrepreneurship in the region.

Dr. Chakravarthy discussed the important changes and efforts being made by the Assam government to improve the business climate, simplify rules, and align skill development programs with what industries require.

He emphasized that a skilled workforce is at the heart of economic growth, especially in sectors like manufacturing, IT, and services. He also talked about the need for stronger partnerships with the private sector to encourage innovation and attract more investment.

Discussing Assam's economic potential, Dr. Chakravarthy emphasized the ambitious target of raising the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from Rs 68.7 billion to Rs 143 billion.

He identified hydrocarbons, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, electronics, agriculture, and bamboo logistics as crucial sectors for growth. He also discussed the importance of technological advancements in robotics, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence as key drivers of Assam's future economy.

A key highlight of the event was the discussion on the UNNATI Scheme, a government initiative designed to empower local entrepreneurs by providing easier access to financial support through banks and institutions.

Dr. Chakravarthy highlighted the need for Assam to grow quickly to remain competitive in the global economy and called for immediate action to speed up economic development. The session included a discussion with industry leaders and entrepreneurs about expanding business opportunities and creating a lively entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Sarat Kumar Jain, Chairman of ICC’s Assam & Meghalaya State Council, talked about the need for skill development that includes everyone, giving equal opportunities to women, youth, and marginalized communities.

To conclude the event, Dr. Jayanta Pathak, Chairman of ICC NER Infrastructure Resilient Construction Committee, delivered the vote of thanks, reaffirming ICC’s commitment to enhancing the business landscape in Assam and North-East India.
