DHEKIAJULI: The town of Dhekiajuli came alive on March 14 and 15 as residents celebrated Holi, the vibrant festival of colours, with immense enthusiasm and traditional fervour. The two-day festivities were marked by community gatherings, cultural performances, devotional rituals at Naamghars and Satras and the joyous splashing of colours, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the state.
On Friday, the day began with special Naam Kirtan at Naamghars and Satras, where devotees gathered to seek blessings and participate in spiritual discourses. The recitation of Naam Kirtan (devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna) resonated through the air, creating an atmosphere of peace and devotion in and around different Satras and Naamghar of Dhekiajuli Co-District. Many devotees also observed traditional rituals associated with Doul Utsav, a unique Holi celebration observed in Assam’s Vaishnavite tradition.
At the Sirajuli Satra under Dhekiajuli Co-District, Ras-Leela performances depicted episodes from Lord Krishna’s life, mesmerizing the devotees. The Head Satradhikar led the congregation in prayer, emphasizing the message of love, unity, and devotion that Holi represents.
On Saturday, from early morning, the streets of Dhekiajuli were filled with people of all ages, drenched in vibrant hues. Children and adults alike smeared each other with gulal (coloured powder) and sprayed coloured water, embodying the spirit of unity and joy. Traditional music and dance performances, including Bihu and Holi-themed folk dances, added to the festive atmosphere.
