Assam: Huge Consignment of Cough Syrup Seized

A total number of 38,200 bottles of the contraband was found in 215 cartons in the truck.

KARIMGANJ: The huge consignment of contraband cough syrups was confiscated by Assam Police during an operation carried out at the Assam-Tripura border area on Friday. Two people were also detained in relation to the transport of the contraband.

During a routine naka checking carried out at the Churaibari locality in Assam’s Karimganj district, Karimganj police were able to intercept a 12-wheeler truck. On checking, it was found that the vehicle was carrying a huge consignment of Eskuf Cough Syrup. A total number of 38,200 bottles of the contraband was found in 215 cartons in the truck.

The seized truck has a registration number UP 80 DT 0499. The driver of the vehicle identified as Chandrashekar Tewari and his helper Ramsagar Tewari were apprehended by the police after the incident. The officer in charge of the Churaibari Police Station mentioned that the consignment was on its way towards Agartala in Tripura from Kolkata in West Bengal.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and the due interrogation is being continued.

In yet another success in the battle against narcotics in the region, Karimganj Police was able to seize a massive consignment of narcotics tablets. The consignment was captured from a vehicle coming from the state of Mizoram on Friday.

According to reports, Karimganj Police intercepted a vehicle during one of its routine patrols. On searching, the police team was able to recover about 40000 Yaba tablets from the vehicle. The police team mentioned that the narcotics were hidden in a secret chamber of the vehicle. The police were also able to apprehend two suspected narcotics peddlers from the vehicle. A case was registered by the Karimganj Police in relation to this incident as well and an investigation is underway regarding the incident.
