KOKRAJHAR: Several hundreds of people including ex-MCLAs of BPF and Congress and a noted entrepreneur joined the BJP in a joining programme held at Serfanguri under Dotma constituency in Kokrajhar district today.
Noted entrepreneur Manaranjan Brahma, who was the richest contesting candidate in 2021 assembly election, formally joined the BJP along with ex MCLAs Jitu Kissan (Congress), Indra Mahan Brahma (BPF), ex-NDFB leader B Binaisa, and several hundreds of people from different communities. Minister Ashok Singhal welcomed the new members with the party scarf.
In his speech, Minister Ashok Singhal said that the BJP in Dotma constituency has got a strong base as several hundreds of people have joined the BJP along with Manaranjan Brahma. He added that the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the centre and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state has restored peace and progress in the BTC region and is working for the welfare of the people with its commitment. “We don’t want the return of violence and gun shots in BTC but transformation,” he said, adding that the BJP and UPPL have been working together for upholding peace, stability, and development and that peace is sustained in BTC because of BJP which ensures guarantee to people. He reminded people who the Chief Minister of Assam and the CEM of BTC were when communal violence took place and said that the common people have not forgotten who was responsible for repeated communal clashes. He also said that there was no room in BJP to promote communal violence.
Noted entrepreneur Manaranjan Brahma said, “I will work based on the principle and direction of the BJP in the days to come.” He said that he was happy to join the national party to work with the dynamic leaders of the party for the welfare of the people of the BTC region.
The programme was also addressed by MCLAs Rajib Brahma, Reo Reoa Narzihary, and Arup Kr Dey and attended by MCLA Bijitgwra Basumatary, MCLA Sajak Kr Singha, President of Kokrajhar District BJP Gossai Basumatary, and others. Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal attended the programme as chief guest. MCLA Prabhat Basumatary and ex-presidents of Kokrajhar District BJP and Santosh Tarafdar also attended the joining programme. Ex- MLA Banendra Mashahary also spoke on the occasion.
