Assam: Infiltration Attempt Foiled, Eight Bangladeshi Nationals Nabbed, Pushed Back

Assam Police have arrested at least eight Bangladeshi infiltrators who attempted to cross over to India through the Indo-Bangla international border under the cover of darkness.

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have arrested at least eight Bangladeshi infiltrators who attempted to cross over to India through the Indo-Bangla international border under the cover of darkness.

According to information shared on social media by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, they were subsequently forced to return to the their country.

In three different updates published on social media over the last three days, Chief Minister Sarma claimed that the Bangladeshi nationals were detained and then forced back, thwarting their attempts to illegally enter Assam.

Another woman was sent back the previous evening, and two more were detained and forced back on Tuesday night, in addition to the five Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested and pushed back last night.

The five Bangladeshi migrants detained last night were identified as Dudu Mia Chakder, Imran Hassan, Md. Mahabub, Anuwar Hussain, and a woman by the name of Nahar Begum.

"Displaying alertness along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended 5 illegal Bangladeshis near the International border and pushed them back across the border," CM Sarma wrote in his X post.

Chief Minister Sarma identified another woman as Satir Khatun on Thursday and wrote, "Continuing with its strict vigil on the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended an illegal Bangladeshi national near the International border and pushed her back across the border."

"Our forces are alert 24/7 to foil any infiltration attempt," he added.
