Assam: International Day for Biological Diversity celebrated in Sadiya College

Sadiya College Eco Club, Zoology Dept, NSS & Assam Science Society jointly celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22.

TINSUKIA: The Eco Club of Sadiya College celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22 in collaboration with Dept of Zoology, NSS Unit of Sadiya College and Assam Science Society, Sadiya Branch.

As a part of the celebration, a screening of documentaries and a open quiz competition was held. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Bhupen Chutia, Principal, Sadiya College, followed by a talk on ‘Biodiversity and its present context by Dr Nakul Neog, Head, Dept of Zoology, Sadiya College, and Coordinator of Eco Club. In his talk, Dr Neog emphasized on the theme of the International Day for Biodiversity- Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development. He discussed the causes and impact of biodiversity loss to the planet.

The topic of human-wildlife conflict was also discussed elaborately. The open quiz was moderated by Digen Das, Assistant Professor, Dept of Physics, Sadiya College. More than 100 students participated in the event along with faculty members. Rupamoni Chiring, Dr Jyotshna Keot, Dr Saradi Bora, and Dr Jai Dayal Mali, General Secretary of Assam Science Society, Sadiya Branch, also shed light on the significance of the day.

The event was moderated by Shumita Thausen, Assistant Professor, Dept of Zoology, Sadiya College.
