GAURISAGAR: Department of Economics, Jhanji Hem Nath Sarma (HNS) College in Sivasagar district, organized a two-day long National Seminar on ‘Emerging Issues on Economic Prosperity and Sustainability’ in collaboration with the college IQAC, held on April 29 and 30. On this occasion, an inaugural function was held. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr Suranjan Sarmah, Principal, Damdama College, Guwahati, where Dr Pranjal Pratim Buragohain, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Dibrugarh University, delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, he stressed that the subject of the topic is relevant in the present day context. Besides, he said that we cannot separate sustainability and growth. Earlier, Dr Manjit Gogoi, Principal of the college, delivered his welcome speech while Dr Priyanka Hazarika, Assistant Professor-cum-Coordinator of the seminar, anchored the inaugural function and highlighted the objective of the seminar. Notably, the seminar was started with the lighting of lamps by Dr Anil Kumar Gogoi, former principal of the college-cum-President, College Governing Body.
Dr Partha Pratim Baruah, Director, UGC, MMTTC, and Professor, Department of Botany, Gauhati University, Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal, Sibsagar Commerce College, Devajyoti Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar, Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah, Principal, Dikhowmukh College, Dr Birinchi Kumar Borah, Principal, HCDG College, Nitaipukhuri, and Dr Jayanta Kumar Gogoi, Principal, JDSG College, Bokakhat, graced the seminar as distinguished guests.
On this occasion, an abstract volume was published and was unveiled by Dr Birinchi Kumar Borah. Four technical sessions were held where 50 papers were submitted by the participants through both offline and online modes. Besides the main theme, other sub-themes like Natural Resource, Inequalities and Sustainable Management, Agriculture Technology and Sustainable Rural Development, Sustainable Urban Planning and Development, Food Security, Nutrition, and Sustainable Future were discussed. Moreover, in the inaugural function, Dr Partha Pratim Baruah was conferred Prakiti Bandhab award jointly by nature organization Arayanom and its Jhanji College unit for his tireless work for the preservation, promotion, and protection of nature.
