Assam: Justice Kardak Ete and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita Sworn in as Judges of Gauhati High Court

Justice Kardak Ete and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita took their oaths as judges of the Gauhati High Court in a ceremony led by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi.

GUWAHATI: Justice Kardak Ete and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita took oath as judges of the Gauhati High Court in a ceremony held at the Chief Justice's courtroom. The event was presided over by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, who administered the oath to both the new judges.

These appointments were made following the recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium, who put weight on educational qualifications and diversity within the appointed candidates.

Meanwhile, last year, Justice D. Krishnakumar was sworn in as the eighth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court during a brief ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan on Friday. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Justice Krishnakumar, who had been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on Wednesday, within 48 hours of the Supreme Court Collegium recommending his name.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, his cabinet colleagues, and dignitaries were present at the Raj Bhavan's Durbar Hall event. The outgoing Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul, had demitted office on Thursday after attaining the age of 62.

A notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law & Justice dated January 17, 2025 reads: "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (I) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Kardak Ete and (ii) Mridul Kumar Kalita, Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."
