GOLAGHAT: As winter temperatures begin to drop in Kaziranga, the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) has ramped up efforts to ensure the comfort and survival of infant and young animals without their mothers.

With temperatures dipping as low as 5 degrees Celsius during the night, the centre has implemented a series of special measures to protect vulnerable wildlife.

Young animals, especially elephant calves, rhinos, and leopards, are vulnerable because of their undeveloped thermoregulation systems. These babies, who lose their mothers, need extra warmth and care since they no longer receive the natural warmth their mothers would provide.

To overcome this, CWRC staff use specially designed blankets for bigger animals like elephants and rhinos, even tying them so that they do not fall off. Oil-based heaters are used to warm smaller animals like kittens. Rooms for elephant calves are constructed to maintain optimal temperature conditions.

The efforts made by the centre are not limited to the cold months alone, but in summer, fans, coolers, and air conditioners are used to provide comfort to the animals.

This devoted care enables the orphaned wildlife at CWRC to survive and even thrive in both winter and summer season. With its attention to detail, the centre will continue to support young animals in need and solidify its position in wildlife conservation.
