GOLAGHAT: The District Level Mega Sporting Event, Khel Maharan 2.0, started today at the Selengi playfield in Assam's Golaghat. The event was officially inaugurated by District Commissioner Pulak Mahanta, ACS, who also hoisted the flag.
The ceremony was attended by many important people from the district, including social workers, sports personalities, and officers from the district administration. Thousands of participants and spectators gathered to witness the event, which aims to promote sports and encourage community participation.
Meanwhile, the district-level competitions of Khel Maharan 2.0 in Barpeta concluded successfully, with the winning participants now set to represent the district in the State Level competition. The closing ceremony was held with great enthusiasm, attended by notable figures, including former International Athlete Taibun Nessa, who was the special guest.
The event was chaired by District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, IAS, with the honorary presence of Sorbhog MLA Manoranjan Talukdar. Other dignitaries included Additional District Commissioners Geetashri Lachit, Jayanta Bora, and Dr. Ramen Talukdar, Principal of FAAMCH, along with social worker Jitu Talukdar and key officials.
A thrilling Under-17 football match between Barpeta and Mandia LAC captivated the audience. MLA Manoranjan Talukdar highlighted the importance of Khel Maharan in offering rural athletes a platform for recognition.
The event concluded with District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha and other dignitaries distributing trophies and medals to the winners, who will now represent Barpeta in the State Level competition. The district-level games included volleyball, football, swimming, chess, cycling, athletics, and kabaddi.
