KOKRAJHAR: Watershed Yatra was organized by the Kokrajhar Soil Conservation Division at Doljhora Village in Kokrajhar. The event was attended by the District commissioner, Kokrajhar Masanda M Pertin as chief guest. The main objective of this event was to create awareness among the farmers and village people regarding soil and water conservation.
The Watershed Yatra began with Bhumi Pujan by the DC for horticulture plantation followed by the flagging off of the watershed van. The watershed van has been provided by the Department of Land Resources, Government of India and has already covered more than 20 districts of Assam. The watershed van comprises an LED TV along with various flex and banners showcasing different successful schemes implemented by the Soil Conservation Department, and also awareness banners.
Subsequently a plantation programme was conducted and saplings were planted by the DC, Kokrajhar along with the Addl Director cum CHD, Soil Conservation Department, and the Divisional Officer, Kokrajhar Soil Conservation Division.
A small programme was held where various activities were conducted such as traditional Bodo cultural programme performed by local villagers of Doljhora, speech delivered by Addl Director cum CHD of Soil Conservation Department regarding the journey of watershed and watershed activities, followed by another speech delivered by the DC, Kokrajhar, regarding Watershed Yatra.
