DHUBRI: In a tragic incident, a laborer was electrocuted while installing an advertisement hoarding for Cosmo Bazar in the Dhubri Municipal area on April 3.

The victim, 30-year-old Bipul Mondal from Abhayapuri, suffered critical injuries after coming into contact with a high-voltage electricity cable carrying 11,000 volts.

According to eyewitnesses, Mondal was climbing a pole to install the hoarding without any safety harness. The worker was allegedly put at serious risk since the contractor overseeing the installation failed to provide the necessary safety equipment. This apparent negligence has raised serious concerns regarding labor safety protocols in such high-risk jobs.

The incident occurred near BOC-More, where Mondal was working on the installation. After being electrocuted, he fell onto a parked Alto vehicle below, worsening his condition. He was immediately rushed to Dhubri Chilarai Hospital, where his condition remains critical.

The Dhubri Police have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on potential safety violations and the contractor’s accountability. Authorities are also examining whether proper permissions and precautionary measures were in place before the installation work began. The incident highlights the need for stricter labor safety regulations and enforcement to prevent such tragic accidents.
