Assam: Leopard Spotted in Nagaon Sparks Panic

A leopard was found sleeping at a toilet of a under construction building near the residence of local MLA in Nagaon town on Thursday afternoon.

NAGAON: A leopard was found sleeping at a toilet of a under construction building near the residence of local MLA in Nagaon town on Thursday afternoon. The sudden presence of the leopard has created widespread panic among the residents of Nagaon Amulapatty.

It is reported that the leopard was noticed first by a mason, working in construction work of the building on the first floor, owned by one Baby Baruah at Nagaon Amulapatty when he went to  toilet. On seeing the leopard at toilet, the mason clicked a photograph of the leopard and informed to the owner.

When the news went viral, one of news photographer of a satellite news channel rushed to the spot just ahead of arrival of local forest personnel and tried to take video of the leopard, his flashlight woke the leopard up and it ran down within a minute and disappeared.

In the meantime, the local forest officials as well as other forest personnel rushed to the spot and tried to trace the leopard so that the big cat could be tranquillized as early as possible. But the forest officials are yet to trace the leopard in the area till the time of filing this report, sources said, adding that the local administration restricted the entry of people in the area and also urged the local residents not to come out for unnecessary work.
