TEZPUR: Goma Devi Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi at Assam's Tezpur University, has been honored with the esteemed Devkota-Lu Xun Pragya International Award 2024 by Nepal's Devkota-Lu Xun Academy. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to Nepali literature and translation.
The Devkota-Lu Xun Academy, established in 2011, is a literary and cultural organization formed by a group of writers, critics, translators, artists, researchers, media professionals, and cultural activists to promote literary and cultural exchange between Nepal and China.
The academy’s name is inspired by Laxmi Prasad Devkota, revered as the Mahakavi of Nepal, and Lu Xun, a renowned Chinese writer. Sharma has made notable contributions to the growth of Indian Nepali literature, which has paved the way for the emergence of World Nepali literature.
The prestigious award was conferred in recognition of Sharma’s significant contributions as a creative writer, dedicated researcher, translator (between Nepali and Hindi), and critic. Sharma has been actively involved in thoughtful writing, leaving a significant impact on the academic community and beyond. Her work is published in two Indian languages—Hindi and Nepali.
She is also a recipient of the Assam government’s Asom Bhasha Gaurav Samman (2021) and the Rashtriya Puraskar (2022) awarded by the Delhi-based Hamro Swabhiman Trust. Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, expressed his sincere congratulations to Sharma on receiving the prestigious award.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that Sharma’s achievement would inspire both faculty members and students to pursue excellence.
