DEMOW: Magh Bihu was celebrated in Demow and its surrounding areas with pomp and gaiety on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, people thronged to the markets to buy various fishes, meats, and essential items required for the community feast. At night, which was the Uruka, community feasts were arranged in Demow and surrounding areas. On Tuesday early morning, the Mejis or bonfires were burnt and after bathing, people took blessings in front of the Mejis. After that, Bhogali Bihu delicacies like Curd (Doi), Beaten Rice (Chira), Jaggery (Gur), different types of Pithas, larus, etc., were eaten.
Under the patronage of Barua Changmai Yuba Samaj and in association with the villagers, the “Bhogali Anikha” was organized in Majar Chuk Naam Ghar premises onTuesday. Different programmes and competitions were organized on that day.
