Assam: Man Dies in Tragic Accident at Aradonga Picnic Spot on Assam-Meghalaya Border

In a tragic incident, a man lost his life at Aradona Picnic area under Athiabari Police Outpost in Meghalaya along the Assam- Meghalaya border on Monday.

Boko: In a tragic incident, a man lost his life at Aradona Picnic area under Athiabari Police Outpost in Meghalaya along the Assam- Meghalaya border on Monday. Local people of the area found a dead body and informed the police. The Athiabari Police Out Post in-Charge Samuel Sangma immediately reached the spot and recovered the dead body and sent it to the Riangdo in West Khasi Hills district for post mortem report. According to the Athiabari Police Out Post in-Charge Samuel Sangma the man went to a stream and lost his balance. He slipped there and died as a result.

People in Assam prepare for the much-loved picnic season, which runs from December to mid-February. People used to have picnics in a variety of natural settings. However, numerous mishaps occur during the picnic, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries. There are many accidents during the picnic season every year despite the police and administration imposing strict rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the Assam’s Hahim Police Out post in-charge Lakhi Nandan Boro also went to the spot and verified the incident. Boro said that a group of around 60 people from Adabari, Guwahati came to the Aradonga picnic spot with two buses. The man who lost his life was identified as Gautam Ganguly (around 56 years old) from Hatat Colony, Rest Camp in Pandu, Guwahati.

Ganguly’s colleagues said that the group has been working in a departmental store in Adabari and today they came to Aradonga to enjoy a picnic with the store owner. After they reached the spot, Ganguly went somewhere while other colleagues were busy cooking. After a while, local people approached them about a dead body in the stream and then they identified the body.

 Aradonga village falls under the West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya state and is a village adjacent to Hahim in Assam’s Kamrup district. Aradonga  is surrounded by trees, mountains, rivers and streams. Thousands of people from Assam come to the banks of the Aradonga stream every year for picnic. The stream connects with the Singra river in Assam which is the tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra river.
