NAGAON: The body of Ajay Singh, a resident of Rangalu in Jakhalabandha, was recovered from the Kolong River on January 27, after he had gone missing on Republic Day.
Singh was involved in a tragic accident on January 26, when his motorbike plunged into the river at a broken stretch of the Hatimura embankment in Kaliabor, Nagaon. Singh was riding his bike bearing registration number AS 02AR 4969, on his way to Jakhalabandha when the vehicle plunged into the river.
Local people found the bike submerged in the river, but it's not clear how many people were riding it during the accident. The Jakhalabandha police later pulled the bike from the river. Reports say that although a temporary barrier was set up near the damaged part of the embankment, the exposed area played a big role in the accident.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, two road accidents in Assam's Morigaon district had claimed two lives and left one person injured, raising concerns over road safety in the region.
In the first accident, two young men identified as Gaurav Bordoloi and Ratan Deuri had died in Katahjari when their tractor had flipped into a ditch. They were on their way back from a field. Locals and police had quickly helped, but it had been hard to recover their bodies.
The second reported incident had occurred near the SBI Bank in Morigaon Majmajia, where a dozer truck had collided in chains with a dumper, a Tata Harrier, a Baleno, and a motorcycle. The crash had caused considerable panic among spectators but had been brought under control by Morigaon police.
