HAFLONG: In a tragic incident, a massive forest fire erupted yesterday in Manderdisa located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. The fire rapidly spread across the Sengyungpur village forest, as per reports.
However, four fire engines from Lumding and Hojai Sankardev Nagar arrived at the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. Reports claim that the blaze affected approximately 10 bighas of forest area.
The entire village was reportedly saved because of the prompt response from the Lumding Fire Department. As the investigation is underway, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
In another similar incident, a massive fire broke out at Harengajao Market in Assam’s Dima Hasao district at around 3 AM earlier on March 9, destroying over 100 shops and houses.
Fire brigades from Harengajao, Haflong, and Cachar worked together to control the blaze. The damage is estimated at over Rs 1 crore. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, a devastating fire broke out in the early hours of February 12 in Lumding’s Harulongpar area in Assam’s Hojai district, gutting four railway quarters and four commercial establishments at Charge Road, Last Colony. The fire, which is suspected to have originated from a business establishment, was noticed by locals at around 4:30 AM.
