NAGAON: A migrant worker from Assam identified as Abdul Rauf, aged 35 years, was arrested in Kerala's Perumbavoor on charges of allegedly carrying 30 grams of heroin. Abdul Rauf was arrested in a well-coordinated operation by Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sakthi Singh Arya, assisted by the Kunnathunadu Police.

Rauf, a resident of Nagaon in Assam, was allegedly running a narcotics racket from a rented apartment in the Chelakkulam area in Kochi. Rauf was found to be bringing heroin from Nagaland by train and selling it through agents under investigation. Rauf confessed selling the drugs in tiny bottles at Rs. 500 per piece through middlemen under police questioning.

Apart from the heroin, the authorities also seized Rs. 84,000 in cash, suspected to be drug sale proceeds, and found hundreds of empty bottles kept at his residence, meant for drug distribution. Police mentioned that Rauf's lavish lifestyle raised suspicions over the sources of his income being legitimate.

The investigation is still underway, with the police trying to track Rauf's supply chain and any possible accomplices who were involved in the drug trade. The arrest underscores the menace of drug trafficking in the area and the actions of local authorities to counter such illegal operations.
