DIPHU: A Class VI student was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning in Ghelani in Assam's West Karbi Anglong, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.

The deceased minor was a boarder at the Holy Child Home Academy hostel. Preliminary reports indicate that due to the poor financial condition of the boy’s family, the school authorities had been providing him with free education and hostel facilities since 2009.

Sources allege that the minor had been using intoxicants, which the school authorities had recently discovered. He was reportedly reprimanded and warned about it by a school official before the incident.

Meanwhile, earlier, a PG student of Barpeta Medical College committed suicide at the college campus hostel. The student had completed his MBBS and was pursuing his Post Graduate degree. He was identified as Bikash Bhoya, a resident of Hanumanbari of Nabchati district, Gujarat. He was in the 3rd semester of his post-graduation course.

This morning, when the cook called Bikash, he did not get any response. The cook then informed the other students, who broke the door and found Bikash hanging. The police rushed to the spot and took the dead body for postmortem to Barpeta Medical College. The reason for the suicide was still unknown.
