NAGAON: A 14 year-old minor girl died under mysterious circumstances at a nursing home on Sunday night here in Nagaon, sparking widespread outrage.
According to sources, the minor girl, a resident of Jaluguti in Marigaon district, was admitted to the nursing home for the post abortion complications. The girl’s mother had allegedly paid Rs 15,000 to a doctor for the abortion.
The girl was admitted to a Nagaon Shivanagar based private maternity centre on November 30. The doctor allegedly performed the abortion at Shivanagar based maternity centre, but the girl started bleeding profusely and her oxygen levels dropped. She was immediately admitted to a private Nursing home located at Nagaon Amulapatty. Despite efforts to save her, the girl died last night.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Nagaon, with locals demanding stern action against the doctor and the nursing home staff. The police have arrested a nurse, Taslima Begum, in connection with the incident.
The incident has also highlighted the issue of illegal abortions being performed at clinics and nursing homes in Nagaon. Locals have alleged that several clinics and nursing homes in the area are involved in illegal abortions, but the health department has failed to take action.
The police are investigating the incident, and a case has been registered against the doctor and the nursing home staff, sources added further.
