Assam: Nagaon Set for Panchayat Polls with 9,300 Polling Officials

Over 9,300 polling officials head to booths from Nagaon centres for Phase 2 of Panchayat polls, set for Wednesday.

NAGAON: Over 7564 male presiding as well as polling officials and 1760 female presiding as well as polling officials being engaged in conducting of free, fair, and transparent Panchayat polls, scheduled to be held on Wednesday in the second phase, have travelled to their respective polling stations from two temporary centres set up for distribution as well as reception of election materials at Nagaon on Tuesday here.

The district police administration has already taken stringent security measures at all polling stations so that no untoward incident can take place anywhere in the district. A total of 698874 male and 69400 female voters as well as 87 other transgender voters will exercise their respective franchise on Wednesday in seven assembly constituencies in the district to elect their respective public representatives in 21 Zila Parishad seats, 132 Anchalik panchayat seats, and 1411 gaon panchayat seats.

Besides, to conduct free and fair Panchayat polls, the district administration has deployed 27 zonal officers in Nagaon district while 7 each have been deployed in Kaliabor and Raha co-districts. Similarly, 120 sector officers have been deployed in Nagaon while 23 and 22 sector officers have been deployed in Raha and Kaliabor co-districts respectively.

As per schedule, the voters of the district will exercise their respective franchise on Wednesday at 1764 polling stations in the district. District Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Narendra Kr Shah has instructed all the concerned police stations under which the elections are scheduled to be held to be more vigilant so that no untoward incident can take place during the polls.
