Assam: NBBSS-Dibrugarh holds International Mother Language Day

DIBRUGARH: Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan (NBBSS), Dibrugarh branch, organised International Mother Language Day at Biraj Ashram in Dibrugarh.

International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance held on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.

Dr Ranjit Sinha, retired professor of Dibru College was present at the programme as chief guest. He spoke about the importance of mother language.

NBBSS, Dibrugarh branch president Dr. Shekhar Purkayastha said everybody should prioritize their mother language.

International Mother Language Day was first announced by UNESCO on November 17, 1999, and it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly with the adoption of UN resolution 57/262 in 2002.
