KOKRAJHAR: The Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), 2025 at NTPC- Bongaigaon, situated at Salakati in Kokrajhar district, commenced on July 1 marked by a ceremonial inauguration graced by Masanda Partin, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC-Bongaigaon, and Kasturi Maitra, President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club.
Currently in its fourth year, the GEM initiative continues to focus on the holistic development of rural girls aged 10–12 years, nurturing their self-confidence, leadership qualities, and sense of social responsibility. A total of 40 girls from 12 nearby schools have been selected for this year’s programme. The inaugural event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the NTPC theme song, symbolizing the organization’s ongoing commitment to progress and empowerment.
The event was attended by senior dignitaries, including Debarata Kar, CGM (O&M), Soumya Kar, Vice-President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, LN Meitei, Commandant, CISF, and Amit Kr Asthana, Head of HR, representatives of union and association, welfare bodies, and parents of the girls. The ceremony featured a short film on GEM 2025 activities, a cultural dance performance by students of Bal Bhawan and Notre Dame Academy, and inspirational testimonials from GEM alumni, reflecting their journeys of self-discovery and transformation. Students also performed a powerful act on ‘Educating the Girl Child,’ showcasing creativity and awareness.
Delivering the keynote address, DC Masanda Partin highlighted the pivotal role of girls’ empowerment in building stronger families and communities. Arnab Maitra, HOP, reaffirmed NTPC’s dedication to education, empowerment, and inclusive development, citing GEM as a flagship initiative shaping future women leaders.
Scheduled from July 1 to July 30, GEM 2025 will offer a life-transforming experience through structured learning modules, creative activities, and a strong focus on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the participants. With over 12,700 girls empowered across all NTPC locations, the Girl Empowerment Mission continues to embody NTPC’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility, gender equality, and sustainable community development.
