Assam: Pig Feed and Pork Products Prohibited to Prevent African Swine Fever

KOKRAJHAR: In pursuance of the Govt. Notification no. E374465/3417719/2025/Livestock Branch of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, Govt. of Assam, in connection with prevention of spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) disease and to take all precautionary measures to stop spreading of ASF in other areas of the district, Wadiul Islam, Addl District Magistrate, Kokrajhar, in exercise of the powers conferred by U/S 163 of BNSS, promulgated the prohibitory order on the activities of pig feed and pork products throughout the infected zone and surveillance zone under Kokrajhar district with immediate effect.

The order is applicable in the infected area within one km radius from the infected zone at Raimona National Park of Kachugaon Development Block under Gossaigaon Sub-Division.

As per the restriction order, in the infected zone, no live pig or pig feed or pork and pork products would be allowed to be taken out or brought into the zone, no carrier of goods or animals will carry any animals from or out of the infected zone. Carriage of animals (pigs) through roadways or railways through the declared infected zone however is allowed provided the animal is not unloaded in any place within the zone till the issuance of sanitization certificate by the competent veterinary authority. No person is allowed to take out any pig alive or dead which is infected or suspected to be infected from African Swine Fever, no person is allowed to carry any pig feed or bedding materials or other materials namely carcass, skin or other parts or product of such animal which has come in contact with any animal infected or suspected to be infected from African Swine Fever, no person, organization or institution shall hold any animal market, animal fair, animal exhibition and carry on any activity which Involves grouping or gathering of pigs within the zone and no person will bring or attempt to bring into the market, fair, exhibition or other congregation or to any public place any of pigs which is infected or suspected to be infected with African Swine fever.

The Chief Veterinary Officer or competent officer, if he thinks fit that euthanasia has to be resorted to for preventing the spread of the disease to other pigs of the area, will issue direction in written for euthanasia of the animal in the infected zone and carcass is to be disposed of by any manner to protect the public health and hygiene. All Municipal, VCDC or Village Officials and all officials of the Panchayat and Rural departunent, Dairy Developýment department, Revenue department and Agriculture department shall assist the Veterinary Officer and the Veterinarian in discharge of their duties or in the exercise of their powers under this act and whoever places or causes or permits to be placed in any river, lake, and canal or any other water body, the carcass or any part of the carcass of any animal which at the time of death was known to be infected, shall be guilty of an offence and punishable by imprisonment or fine or both.
