BISWANATH CHARIALI: In a significant development underscoring Biswanath Police’s unwavering stand against sexual crimes involving children, the District and Sessions Judge of Biswanath convicted one Bishal Thapa (23 years), a resident of Gohain Chapori under Sootea Police Station, for the sexual assault of a minor girl, in a judgement delivered on Thursday. The incident had taken place long back in 2021 under the jurisdiction of Sootea Police Station and subsequently, a case was registered bearing no 01/2021 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. The case was thoroughly investigated and then the accused was arrested and prosecuted under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act.
Following detailed trial proceedings, the court found the accused guilty under Section 4 (2) of the POCSO Act and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 15,000. The case was successfully prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor Moushumi Borthakur.
“This conviction reaffirms Biswanath Police’s commitment to ensuring swift and effective justice for victims of sexual crimes, particularly children,” stated a press release here on Friday.
