GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on Friday in a post on X, saying, “Assam Police continues its crackdown on infiltration, 6 Bangladeshi nationals apprehended.” He did not mention which district the operation happened in.
This action shows Assam's continued efforts to protect its borders and deal with illegal immigration in the area.
The 172 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) caught six Bangladeshi nationals on Thursday in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district. They were stopped while trying to cross the border into Bangladesh.
The operation was based on specific intelligence about suspicious activity near the border. Acting quickly, BSF troops increased patrols and intercepted the group while they attempted the crossing.
The BSF is responsible for protecting India’s borders and regularly stops illegal crossings and smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. Although the area’s dense forests and rugged hills make patrolling difficult, the BSF stays alert and works hard to prevent such activities.
In recent months, there has been an increase in attempts to cross the border, often driven by economic distress or criminal networks involved in smuggling contraband. The BSF’s intensified surveillance and operational efficiency have resulted in the successful prevention of several such incidents.
