CHURAIBARI: In a tragic incident, Assam Police Constable Ujjwal Bora died after being hit by a truck during an operation in thick fog at Churaibari. The police were trying to stop a suspicious truck when it crashed into Constable Bora. In the chase that followed, both the truck and the police vehicle lost control and went off the road.
Early investigations suggest the truck may have been carrying illegal goods. Authorities are working to confirm this and find those responsible. The residence of the deceased policeman has been located in Jorhat, Assam.
Investigations are still ongoing to learn more about the truck’s contents and the events that led to the accident.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, a police vehicle, which was chasing a truck suspected of carrying illegal timber, was attacked near Phersakandi village in West Garo Hills on Tuesday, exposing the long-prevailing evil of timber smuggling in the region.
The incident began when a patrolling team spotted the truck carrying illegal timber. In an effort to stop it, the truck managed to evade the authorities and entered the crowded Phersakandi area.
When the police closed in, a group of villagers surrounded their vehicle, apparently helping the smugglers make their getaway. In the process, the mob damaged the police car.
