GUWAHATI: Assam Police successfully apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, on Tuesday for attempting to illegally cross into India near the India-Bangladesh border. The individuals, identified as Hubha S, Mithun S, and Pinki Molla, were arrested and later pushed back to Bangladesh.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for being alert and stopping illegal border crossings. On social media, he said, "Strict vigilance along the border continues. In an alert move by @assampolice, 3 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended near the border trying to illegally sneak in."

The Chief Minister also talked about the effectiveness of border security, including the fencing along the India-Bangladesh border which is nearing completion. CM Sarma assured that Assam is staying alert to prevent illegal crossings and expressed concern about possible links between Pakistan’s ISI, terrorist groups in Bangladesh, and local groups in Assam.

Meanwhile, earlier last week, the Meghalaya Police had reported on Friday that security forces had detained eight individuals suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals near the border town of Hallidayganj in West Garo Hills.

An officer had said that the eight people, who had entered India illegally, were from Mitapukur and Sabar (Habra) in Bangladesh. The people who were detained were identified as Pappu Sheikh (27), Alif Mal (39), Masirul Ojha (18), Arif Sheikh (37), Maherul Khan (19), Alif Mondol (35), Dalia Ojha, and Jhorina, according to officials.
