GUWAHATI: Assam police apprehended six infiltrators, including two women from Bangladesh and handed them over to authorities in the neighboring country, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Saturday.
''6 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators nabbed and sent back. In an alert move, personnel of @assampolice tracked and apprehended 6 Bangladeshi nationals near the international border,'' CM Sarma wrote in a post on X.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Md Didarul Islam, Santu Khan, Ismile Hussain Rahat, Sakib Hussain, Shati Akhter, and Mim Seikh.
''All of them have been pushed back across the border,'' the Assam CM added.
However, the chief minister did not specify the exact location of the Indo-Bangladesh border where they were intercepted.
Meanwhile, ever since the turmoil erupted in Bangladesh in August this year, around 167 people have been apprehended for illegally entering India and have been pushed back to Bangladesh.
Since the unrest erupted in Bangladesh, the BSF has increased its vigilance along the 1,885 km Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast.
Earlier, Director General of Police G P Singh stated that Assam Police is maintaining a high alert along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent any illegal entry into the state.
