HOJAI: The police in Assam's Hojai opened fire on a gang of cattle thieves in Nilbagan area, leading to the apprehension of two suspects and recovering stolen items.
The incident unfolded when four cows were stolen from an area falling under the jurisdiction of Udali police station after the miscreants broke through the barricades.
The thieves were relentlessly chased by a police vehicle, resulting in a confrontation at Mobarak Basti in Nilbagan. The cops fired rounds at the vehicle which was evading capture.
The police managed to arrest two thieves in the field while the other two somehow managed to escape and are currently absconding.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, four cattle thieves were arrested after they picked up a cow in a Maruti eco vehicle from Garal and then they picked up another cow in the same vehicle at Sajjanpara near Ecoland in Azara.
According to police, locals caught the thieves at Sajjanpara while they were loading a cow in the vehicle.
The arrested victims were identified as Raja Ali (22) of Hajo, Riazul Haque(19) of Mukalmua, Maidul Ali (22) and Rahim Badshah (30) of Tarabari in Barpeta district.
