SILCHAR: In a significant operation on Tuesday, Assam Police confiscated a staggering 66,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs. 20 crore in Cachar district. The operation was conducted based on reliable intelligence aimed at combating illegal drug trafficking along the Assam-Mizoram border.
Numal Mahatta, the Superintendent of Police of Cachar, reported that a police team executed a raid at the residence of 36-year-old Md Dil Bahar in Raj Gobindpur, Baga, under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station.
The Yaba tablets were discovered hidden within the false ceiling of the house. The seizure was carried out following legal protocols and in the presence of independent witnesses.
Initial investigations proved that the tablets had a psychotropic substance, and the authorities believe that they were transported from an adjacent state. The police are now seeking additional legal procedures as part of the ongoing case.
This operation comes after another major drug seizure in South Salmara Mankachar district, where 8,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore were seized on Sunday. The consignment was supposed to be smuggled into Bangladesh, and two people involved in the operation were arrested.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for their hard work, reaffirming the state's determination to destroy drug smuggling and trafficking networks.
