Assam Police Seize Drugs Valued At Rs. 65 Crore In Major Anti-Narcotics Raids

The Assam police has seized approximately Rs. 65 crore worth of drugs in two different raids in the districts of Sribhumi and Cachar.

SILCHAR: The Assam police has seized approximately Rs. 65 crore worth of drugs in two different raids in the districts of Sribhumi and Cachar. The state's dedicated commitment to eradicating the drug nexus is demonstrated by these stringent actions.

Police in Sribhumi intercepted a truck in the Hathikhira neighbourhood after receiving specific intelligence. Officers recovered 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 45 crore on the market during the operation, weighing more than 16 kg. Investigations are still ongoing and a suspect has been taken into custody.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the operation on X, saying, "Good job @assampolice! Let us continue to break the nexus of drugs in the State.”  

Meanwhile, the Special Task Force (STF) and the local police carried out a late-night raid on Silcoorie Road in Silchar, which was located in the Cachar district. Sonai resident Sahil Ahmed Laskar was arrested in the operation, which was led by STF Chief Partha Sarathi Mahanta.

Laskar was nabbed carrying 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin on his motorcycle. The estimated market value of the confiscated narcotics is Rs. 20 crore. This was confirmed by the STF chief who informed that a huge quantity of drugs had been seized.

These proactive actions demonstrate the Assam Police's aggressive strategy in preventing drug trafficking and safeguarding the security and welfare of the local population.
