Assam: Prasad Consumption Triggers Mass Illness;15 Hospitalized, 3 Critical

Over 15 people in Assam's Bandardewa fell ill after eating prasad, leading to hospitalization and critical conditions. The previous mushroom-related incident highlights food safety concerns.

GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident that unfolded in Burha Burhi village, Assam, more than 15 individuals fell seriously ill after consuming prasad at a local resident's home on a Friday morning. The victims began experiencing vomiting shortly after noon, leading to their immediate admission to Dhalpur and Bholabari hospitals for urgent medical attention.

At Dhalpur Hospital, the affected individuals receiving treatment are identified as Niku Bhuyan, Premlata Bhuyan, Dinamoni Bhuyan, Shilrani Bhuyan, Bablu Bhuyan, and Bablu Bhuyan. Meanwhile, at Bholabari Hospital, those undergoing medical care include Indushree Bhuyan, Jibon Bhuyan, Bina Bhuyan, Manju Bhuyan, Ritamani Bhuyan, Maniram Bhuiyan, Denish Bhuyan, Bhanu Bhuyan, Samish Bhuyan, and others, including a few children. Regrettably, three individuals are in critical condition and have been referred to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital for further specialized treatment.

This unfortunate incident follows a similar case in the region on June 23, where 17 people fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms in Dhemaji, Assam. Among those affected were Sumitra Narzary, Rindev Ramsiary, Sabitri Doimary, Mukung Swargiyari, Brindaban Bosumotary, Ringkham Doimari, Rohila Basumaotray, July Swargiyari, John Swargiyari, Anjali Swargiyary, and Khagen Narzary.

The authorities are actively investigating the cause of the mass illness in Bandardewa and are taking measures to prevent further incidents. Health officials closely monitor the situation, offer comprehensive care to the affected individuals, and conduct awareness campaigns to educate the community about potential risks associated with consuming certain foods.

As the residents of Bandardewa and surrounding areas remain on high alert, it serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety practices and the need for immediate medical attention in case of any foodborne illness symptoms.
