Dhanshing Deka (66), an exemplary farmer of Niz Mikirgaon, Barapujia, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) yesterday evening. He was known as a descendant of the Chetuwa King of the historically famous Mikir State.
He had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time and was initially admitted to a private hospital in Guwahati. As he did not recover, he was later admitted to GMCH for better treatment. Unfortunately, Dhanshing Deka passed away, leaving everyone in tears.
He had set an example for young farmers in the locality. He established himself as a successful farmer by engaging in agriculture and allied activities, gradually moving from traditional farming methods to modern technology. He inspired local youths to take up farming as a means of livelihood. He also had a buffalo farm that was well known for supplying milk and curd to far-flung areas. He owned a pair of buffaloes that used to participate in buffalo fights, which were once ubiquitous in the region. The demise of this progressive farmer is an irreparable loss to the entire district. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and three daughters.
