GUWAHATI: A comprehensive set of reforms has been proposed by the Assam government to uphold the sanctity of the examination process and ensure transparency. This comes in response to suspicions of irregularities in conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) at some private examination centres.

Following a discreet inquiry by the Assam police, a high-level virtual meeting was convened by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with senior officials and the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) on April 14.

This has been prompted by preliminary findings suggesting that some students clearing NEET in private exam centres in the state were securing abnormally high marks.

In order to protect the integrity of NEET, Assam Government has proposed the following-

1. All examination centres would be in Government or Govt Aided colleges only.

2. Several safeguards related to the examination material movement, distribution and storage.

3. Aadhar based/Biometric Verification of the candidates at the examination centres.

4. CCTV coverage of the exam at all the centres.

5. Detailed SOP for frisking at all centre.

6. Personal visit of DC and SP to each examination centre before the exam, and sanitation of the centres.

7. Deputing Senior Civil Services and Police officers for reviewing and monitoring the preparation and conduct of the exam.

8. Close coordination between the @CSAssam_, @DGPAssamPolice and the Director General, National Testing Agency for meticulous planning.

9. Zero tolerance for any malpractice and strict legal action against anyone trying anything illegal.
