BOKAKHAT: Bokakhat Puwati Xahitya Xabha expressed deep surprise and concern over the formation of a new branch of a literary society named Bokakhat Xahitya Xabha in close proximity to their existing organization. This was stated in a press release signed by the secretary of the Puwati Sahitya Sabha, Namita Bora.

The statement further mentioned that during the session of the Puwati Xahitya Xabha held on February 16, in the presence of the vice president and secretary of the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha, who attended as observers, it was declared, according to the guidelines of the constitution, that Minoti Dalek, who was aspiring to be the president, could not be a candidate due to her holding a political position. Instead, Gopikananda Saikia was officially declared the president on ethical grounds.

What is now especially surprising is that on April 22, the vice president, secretary, and even the president of the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha, Bonti Bora, formed another branch called Bokakhat Shakha Xahitya Xabha with the same Minoti Dalek as president and Badan Duarah as Secretary. This took place very near the existing Puwati Xahitya Xabha. It is notable that both these individuals were, until recently, members of the executive committee of the Puwati Xahitya Xabha.

Moreover, the Golaghat District Xahitya Xabha did not inform or consult the highly-regarded and twice-awarded Puwati Xahitya Xabha before forming the new branch. The Puwati Xabha is not just any ordinary branch but is considered a leading intellectual and cultural institution in Bokakhat and has been honoured as the best branch both at the district and state level.

Therefore, the intellectual community of Bokakhat expressed concern over this unexpected development. On April 23, the Puwati Xahitya Xabha held an emergency executive meeting and vehemently protested this action, adopting several important resolutions and deciding to formally notify the Axam Xahitya Xabha about the issue.

The emergency executive meeting, held at the Puwati Xahitya Xabha Bhavan, began with a one-minute silent prayer for those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam incident. The meeting was presided over by Gopikananda Saikia, and the purpose of the gathering was explained by Secretary Namita Bora. Several former presidents including Surendranath Gogoi, Manoranjan Sen, Apurba Bordoloi, and Kalpana Chetia, Vice-President Dilip Saikia, Publication Secretary Suvarna Saikia Bordoloi, Joint Secretary Monalisa Saikia, and others were present in the meeting.
