DEMOW: Protesters blocked the NH37 Road in Demow Chariali today demanding that a missing woman named Bina Konwar Dehingia be found. Bina has been missing since March 14 from her husband’s house.
Bina Konwar, a resident of Gudhabil Gaon near Demow, is married to Basanta Dehingia, a resident of Demow Konwar Dehingia Gaon, and has two children. The family members of Bina Konwar Dehingia had informed the Nitaipukhuri Police Outpost and Demow Police Station earlier.
According to information received, the women of Gudhabil Gaon along with the public came to Demow Police Station today but when they reached, they found that the front gate of the police station was closed. This angered the women and they tried to open the gate and shouted slogans against Assam Police.
Later, the women of 6 villages blocked the NH37 Road in Demow Chariali demanding action on the missing case. A protester said that they (village people) were told to come to the Demow Police Station today at 10am but when they reached, the front gate of Demow Police Station was closed.
There was full security in the Demow Chariali area today. When the situation became chaotic, the Demow Circle Officer, Additional SP, DSP, and ADC of Demow Co-District talked with the protesters. However, the protesters were not satisfied and demanded that the missing woman be found.
The protesters blocked the NH37 Road for around 5 hours leading to a big traffic jam. The ADC of Demow Co-District requested the protesters to give 48 hours to the police but the protesters refused and gave the police a deadline of 9 PM today to find the woman.
Basanta Dehingia, husband of Bina Konwar Dehingia, was arrested by the police and produced before the court in Sivasagar on Tuesday and is on remand, informed a police source.
