GOLAGHAT: Rahima Begum, a resident of Golaghat, returned home after being wrongfully identified as a foreign national and pushed back to the India-Bangladesh border. She was handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) on May 25 and taken to the Matia Detention Camp in Goalpara. From there, she was pushed across the border. Begum alleged she was beaten by Bangladeshi forces and verbally abused by BSF personnel.

Following submission of valid citizenship documents by her family, she was brought back and reunited with her family. Her daughter, Yasmin Begum, accused the police of failing to verify documents before deporting her mother. She also claimed that the police ignored Rahima’s health condition.

Rahima Begum has since been hospitalized due to her deteriorating health, and the family has demanded action against the officials involved.
