DHEKIAJULI: The 61st Memorial Day of eminent scholar, philosopher, and archaeologist Rajmohan Nath was organized by the Sirajuli Branch of the Xahitya Xabha at the initiative of the Sonitpur District Xahitya Xabha. The event was held under the presidency of Dhrubajyoti Kakoti, President of the Branch Xahitya Xabha, and was inaugurated by Dr Dalima Kakoti, Editor of the District Xahitya Xabha’s journal, by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
In her address, Dr Kakoti highlighted that the discussion of the life and works of such a memorable personality can enrich generations. She shed light on various aspects of Rajmohan Nath’s contributions. The keynote speech was delivered by distinguished retired teacher and former president of the Branch Xahitya Xabha Sachindra Baishya. In his speech, Baishya emphasized that although Rajmohan Nath was born in Hailakandi and ethnically a Bengali gentleman, he wholeheartedly embraced the responsibilities of an Assamese, embodying the spirit of a true Assamese individual.
Baishya further added that Rajmohan Nath’s invaluable contributions to Assam’s religious, social, cultural, historical, archaeological, and national life are undeniable. He expressed hope that with such visionary thinking from the Axam Xahitya Xabha, future generations will rediscover not only Rajmohan Nath but also other forgotten illustrious Assamese figures in a new light.
Dr Sukadev Adhikari, President of the District Xahitya Xabha, expressed his gratitude to the Sirajuli Branch for organizing the event so beautifully. He emphasized that only when the lives of great Assamese personalities are brought to the fore and discussed meaningfully can the true purpose of the Xahitya Xabha be fulfilled.
The meeting also saw constructive discussions on various aspects of the event and its themes by district representatives Dr Mahikanta Das and Pranab Sharma. The vote of thanks was offered by Shankar Rajbanshi, Secretary of the Branch Xahitya Xabha. The event concluded with the national anthem.
