Assam researcher selected as reviewer of World Heritage nomination dossiers

Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, a researcher and author of Indology, has been selected as Desk Reviewer of World Heritage Nominations.

NAGAON: Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, a researcher and author of Indology, has been selected as Desk Reviewer of World Heritage Nominations. He has already reviewed a dossier submitted to UNESCO. He was selected for this task by the World Heritage Evaluation Unit of International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), which is a professional body working long for conservation and protection of cultural heritage sited around the world.

ICOMOS is also the official body which examines the dossiers of World Heritage Nominations submitted to UNESCO. Dr Borkakoti was earlier also elected as an expert member of International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH) two years ago. He was the first Assamese to have that honour. He, along with another expert member of ICICH from Assam, Dilip Changkakoty, has been promoting Intangible Cultural Heritages of Assam like Bihu, Borgeet and the magic of Mayong.

Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti is known for his books on life and works of Srimanta Sankaradeva in both English and Assamese. He has translated lyrics of Borgeet and Gunamala authored by Srimanta Sankaradeva and Namghosha authored by Madhavadeva, to English. He has written an English novel named The Redeemer based on the life of Srimanta Sankaradeva. In 2022, he was conferred Sankari Sahitya Sanskriti Award by Jorhat Sahitya Sabha.
