HATSINGIMARI: Over two hundred shopkeepers having their shops in the Patakata weekly market protested and demanded that the market be allowed to function where it is currently functioning in front of the District Commissioner and the Chief Secretary of the Zila Parishad.

It is important to note that the Patakata weekly market is the largest market in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state. This important market was originally located on the banks of the river, but the land was lost to soil erosion by the river. Following this, the shopkeepers decided to shift shop to several locations, including the banks of the river, the playground of the Patakata M V School and even the private land of local people. Thus causing multiple problems for the shopkeepers in setting up temporary setups.

So the local shopkeepers got together to procure a plot wherein they decided to set up the market for the days to come. The plot of land procured by the shopkeepers was handed over to the administration towards its development and the people set shop elsewhere temporarily. But after that controversy has arisen regarding the location of the new marketplace.

The shopkeepers alleged that a number of people want to shift the market back to the river back instead of keeping it on the land procured by them for fulfilling their own agenda. They also demanded that the market should be developed in a pre-determined location and the administration should ensure the smooth conduct of business in the market.

Recently, steps have been taken by the local police to prevent the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions and medical facilities in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state. This initiative to stop the sale of tobacco and tobacco products in the vicinity of educational institutions and hospitals was led by the officer in charge of the Kharuabandha Police Outpost, which comes under the South Salmara Mankachar region of the state. The team carried out searches at the Kharuabandha Bazar, near the Hatsingimari District Hospital and in the vicinity of the Hatsingimari Namoni Jatiya Vidyalaya.
