Assam: Situation tense in Biswanath district over married woman’s death

Tension in Pub Bhir Gaon as newlywed Afruja Khatun found dead; her family accuses husband and in-laws of strangling her, sparking confrontation.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: A tense situation prevailed over the death of a married woman at Pub Bhir Gaon village under Biswanath Chariali police station in Biswanath district on Thursday afternoon. According to information, one Afruja Khatun, wife of Malik Hussain alias Rahmat Ali, who got married a month back, was found dead at her home in the afternoon. When the news of her death reached her paternal home situated at No. 1 Adabheti village, a large number of people rushed to her husband’s house and started to accuse the husband’s family for Afruja’s death. This led to a confrontation between both the families. Afruja’s family alleged that Malik Hussain and his parents strangled her to death.

However, police arrived at the spot getting information about the tense situation and managed to pacify the mob. The dead body was sent for post mortem in the presence of a magistrate. Malik Hussain and his parents were apprehended and further investigation is ongoing.
