DHUBRI: A skill development initiative aimed at promoting self-employment in the jute industry has been successfully completed at the UCO Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in Assam's Dhubri. It was a skill development initiative taken up by both the central and Assam government, which benefited 34 people with practical training to start a business of their own.
These training sessions were facilitated by experts, namely, Juri Baruah, a domain skill trainer, and Debodotta Chaki, an Entrepreneurship Development Programme trainer at UCO RSETI. Participants learned hands-on manufacturing of jute products and management of the business, thus enhancing their preparedness to enter the industry as entrepreneurs.
Pankaj Kumar Baruah, State Director for RSETI Assam, said that the program is important for economic independence. He said, "These programs enable people to stand on their own feet, support their families, and contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat."
Apun Pratim Handique, Director of UCO RSETI Dhubri, said that the initiative is in line with India's vision of self-sufficiency. The participants were eager to put their newfound abilities to use in order to create sustainable lifestyles.
One trainee, Afruza Begum, reiterated that "this programme will serve as another step forward in entrepreneurial empowerment that helps strengthen our economies and further support India's bigger vision of self-reliance through skill development." It is expected to have a ripple effect in giving prosperity to the local economy through entrepreneurship in jute.
