SRIBHUMI: Two sisters were struck by a speeding truck that lost control when they were walking by the road in the Kanishali neighbourhood of Sribhumi.

One school girl lost her life in the tragic incident, and another is critically injured. The driver is allegedly on the run, and the incident is being investigated by local police.

Yesterday, a similar tragic accident in Bishalgarh on Thursday claimed the life of 24-year-old Aradhya Acharjee, an M-Tech student from NIT Agartala and a talented guitarist.

Aradhya was returning to Agartala on his two-wheeler after visiting Dumbur when a truck struck him from behind on the Bishalgarh bypass around 11:00 AM. The collision flung him off his bike, causing severe skull injuries.

Locals, with the police and Fire Brigade, rushed him to Bishalgarh hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The truck driver fled the scene.

Aradhya’s grieving father, Alakesh Acharjee, described him as his only hope after losing his wife two years ago. He lamented that Aradhya’s love for motorbikes led to his untimely demise.

A tragic accident occurred recently near Ditokcherra on the Silchar-Haflong road when a Bolero vehicle traveling from Silchar to Haflong lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

Bappu Barbhuiya, one of the passengers, died instantly from the severe impact. The other four occupants—Nippu Laskar, Anwar Sadat Laskar, Parul Laskar, and Tinku Chowdhury—sustained critical injuries in the crash.

This incident follows other tragic bike accidents, including the December 2024 Guwahati flyover crash and a tourist’s death in Assam’s Hojai district. Investigations into these accidents are ongoing.
